Vision: We engineer hollow spheres to build a greener globe
Mission: With the innovative hollow microsphere technology, O-Spheres is committed to holding the value of the United Nations “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”, aiming to alleviate the microplastics issue and improve environmental protection with innovations.
The Beginning of Building a Greener Globe
In January 2018, the European Commission initiated a restriction procedure on microplastics in cosmetic products, which is also applying to sunscreen products. The EU ban is expected to take place as early as 2022.
Inspired by his expertise in hollow microspheres, Prof. NGAI has successfully developed a novel hollow mineral-based UV filters, “O-Spheres Sunblocker” to solve this environmental problem. The new 100% environmental-friendly alternative delivers a comparable performance with the conventional UV filters, meanwhile easing the potential health threat to humans.
Apart from the experience in developing this innovation, Prof. NGAI also spots that his eco-hollow microspheres technology could promote sustainable development goals in different industries. Therefore, his team founded O-Spheres Limited which is dedicated to providing customized eco-solutions across a broad spectrum for tackling the world’s environmental challenges.
